Explosion Near US Embassy in Oslo Raises Terrorism Concerns

Oslo, March 8: Norwegian police have expressed concerns that the powerful explosion near the US Embassy in the capital could be linked to a terrorist attack. Local media outlets reported the police’s comments following the incident that occurred early Sunday morning. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and only minor damage was reported. Authorities are investigating the possibility of a terrorist plot while also considering other motives.

Frode Larsen, head of the joint unit for police investigations and intelligence, stated in an interview with public broadcaster NRK, “One assumption is that this is a terrorist attack.” He added during a press conference, “However, we are not solely fixated on this. We must remain prepared for the possibility that there could be other reasons behind what happened.”

The explosion, which resonated throughout Oslo, was so powerful that it rattled windows and walls of nearby homes. Witnesses reported that smoke filled the area around the embassy shortly after the blast.

In a statement released after the explosion, Norwegian police confirmed that a significant number of resources were deployed to the vicinity of the embassy around 1:00 AM local time. They also noted, “The police are in communication with the embassy, and there are no reports of injuries.”

Michael Delemir, who led the police response team, informed NRK that the explosion occurred at the public entrance of the building. He mentioned that police officials conducted an investigation in the area surrounding the embassy in Oslo’s Morgedalsveien district.
