Rome, May 18: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Italy soon, generating significant enthusiasm among the locals. Preparations are in full swing, reflecting the positive sentiment surrounding his arrival. Vani Rao, India’s Ambassador to Italy, stated that India’s long-term vision and approach have made a notable impact in the country.
Ambassador Rao highlighted, “This year, we have observed a growing interest across Europe in diversifying business partnerships. Countries are seeking more stable and reliable trade partners, and India is perfectly positioned for this. We have consistently recorded rapid economic growth. We represent a vast market, and the long-term vision of a developed India has truly resonated here.”
She added, “Currently, we have an existing migration and mobility agreement, which allows Indian workers to come under seasonal work permits. We anticipate greater diversity in the workforce in the future, leading to an influx of more professionals into Italy.”
Rao emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy and community relations. The Indian community plays a crucial role in promoting Indian culture in Italy. Yoga, Ayurveda, Indian cinema, and cuisine are immensely popular here. Notably, India has a national pavilion at this year’s Venice Art Biennale, which has received overwhelmingly positive reviews and attracted numerous visitors.
Regarding security cooperation, the Ambassador stated that it is a top priority in India’s foreign policy, emphasizing a zero-tolerance approach to terrorism. India and Italy already have a framework for dialogue through a joint working group on counter-terrorism. Last year, both Prime Ministers announced a new initiative to combat the funding of terrorism, and India aims to collaborate closely with Italy on this shared concern.
On PM Modi’s upcoming visit, she remarked, “The Prime Minister’s trip is crucial. In 2023, both leaders announced a strategic partnership, followed by the development of a five-year action plan that both governments are actively working to implement across various sectors.”
