New Delhi, June 15: England has received a significant blow ahead of the second Test match against New Zealand. Fast bowler Ollie Robinson has been ruled out of the match due to a right knee injury.
Robinson had made his return to the Test team after two years for this series. He played a crucial role in the first Test at Lord’s, taking seven wickets and leading England to victory. However, his new injury raises further concerns about his fitness. Robinson last played a Test match in February 2024 in Ranchi, where he bowled only 13 overs and did not bowl in the second innings.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that Robinson will remain with the team. It will be interesting to see if he can regain fitness in time for the third Test at Trent Bridge, starting June 25. Robinson’s absence is a significant loss for England, especially as regular captain Ben Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson have also been excluded from the second Test due to an ongoing investigation related to a nightclub incident.
England’s performance in the first Test at Lord’s was impressive. The home team defeated New Zealand by 115 runs, showcasing strong performances from their fast bowlers. In response to England’s first innings total of 140, New Zealand was bowled out for just 113 runs.
In the second innings, England scored 226 runs, thanks to a half-century from Emilio Gay. New Zealand, however, collapsed again, managing only 138 runs in their second innings. In the first innings, Ollie Robinson took five wickets, while Gus Atkinson claimed five wickets for 30 runs in the second innings.
