Employees of Gujarat Trader Allegedly Kidnapped in Kolkata Heist

Kolkata, May 19: Two employees of a trader from Gujarat were reportedly robbed by a gang under the pretense of a business transaction. After stealing ₹42 lakh, the suspects allegedly kidnapped both employees and forced them into a car.

The incident took place on the Kona Expressway in Howrah district, where the victims were later abandoned.

According to police reports on Tuesday, the trader from Gujarat arrived in Kolkata after learning about the incident and filed a formal complaint. The robbery occurred in the Survey Park area of South Kolkata. Following the complaint, the police registered a case of robbery and kidnapping and have initiated an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects.

Authorities revealed that the incident transpired in the first week of this month. The trader, residing in Gandhinagar, was contacted by individuals in Kolkata regarding a business deal.

The suspects posed as traders and discussed sending goods from Kolkata to Gujarat. They claimed that if the trader paid ₹42 lakh, the goods would be dispatched immediately.

After this agreement, the trader sent money through his two employees, who were taken to a house in the New Santoshpur area of South Kolkata. Upon arrival, the employees were allegedly asked to hand over cash in exchange for the promised goods.

Reports indicate that the employees were then locked in a room by the suspects, who were armed. Approximately six armed individuals reportedly threatened them at gunpoint and seized the bag containing ₹42 lakh.

The assailants then transported the victims in a vehicle and abandoned them on the Kona Expressway before fleeing the scene. The victims managed to reach Howrah Railway Station and returned to Gujarat, where they informed the trader about the entire incident.

Subsequently, the trader arrived in Kolkata and lodged a complaint at the Survey Park police station regarding the kidnapping and robbery of his employees. Police are now working to identify the house where the victims were held. Investigators are also attempting to trace the vehicle used and identify the suspects through contact numbers provided by the trader. CCTV footage is being scrutinized as part of the investigation.
