ED Launches Major Raid in Kolkata Over Alleged Land Fraud Linked to Sona Pappu

Kolkata, May 22: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has initiated a significant search operation in connection with the alleged land fraud case involving Biswajit Poddar, also known as Sona Pappu. On Friday morning, a team of seven investigation officers from the ED, accompanied by central security forces, conducted a raid at a hotel located on Royd Street in Kolkata.

According to sources, this search is directly linked to the ongoing investigation into the Sona Pappu land fraud case. In this context, ED officials also visited the residence of Kolkata Police sub-inspector Ruhul Amin Ali Shah in Balygunge. Ruhul is reportedly considered a close associate of Shantanu Biswas from the Kolkata Police Welfare Board. The ED also searched the residence of Shantanu Biswas’s sister located at 53 Fern Road.

The Enforcement Directorate has filed multiple charges against Sona Pappu in court. He was arrested in connection with a syndicate and corruption case. The central investigative agency claimed in court that Sona Pappu used intimidation tactics to acquire land and properties from individuals at undervalued prices. Not only Sona Pappu, but the ED has also mentioned a gang of three individuals in court.

The agency alleged that Pappu worked for businessman Joy Kamdar from Behala and Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas. He was also responsible for significant operations within the land syndicate. The agency claimed that Pappu faces numerous charges, including extortion, intimidation, land encroachment, and illegal possession of firearms.

During the search operation at Pappu’s residence, the agency reportedly discovered a revolver. This revolver was purchased in the name of Joy Kamdar’s organization. Following the purchase of the revolver, unrest erupted in the Kankulia area under the Rabindra Sarovar police station in February.

It is noteworthy that Pappu’s name surfaced in connection with the unrest that occurred in February. Local residents alleged that Biswajit was involved in the clashes between two groups, and his associates were responsible for the violence and vandalism.
