Earthquake Strikes Rajasthans Sikar, Officials Urged to Inspect Dilapidated Buildings

New Delhi, March 7: An earthquake shook Sikar district in Rajasthan early Saturday morning. At 6:32 AM, residents felt the tremors and quickly evacuated their homes. The quake was felt in the well-known religious town of Khatushyamji, as well as in Palsana, Dhingpur, and nearby areas.

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale. CCTV cameras in various locations captured the sounds of the tremors. Fortunately, there were no reports of casualties or property damage.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at 6:32:59 AM on March 7, 2026, with its epicenter located approximately 69 kilometers northwest of Jaipur. The quake was recorded at a depth of about 5 kilometers, which contributed to the light tremors felt in surrounding areas.

Local residents reported slight vibrations in their homes, along with movement in windows and doors. The tremors were brief, preventing any panic among the populace.

Administrative officials from Dantaramgarh and the Khatu region stated that the tremors were mild. They assured that the temples remained completely safe for devotees, and the visitation process continued without interruption. As a precaution, local officials have been instructed to inspect old buildings and fragile structures in their areas to ensure safety.

This is not the first occurrence; a similar earthquake struck near Khatushyamji on December 15, 2025. The recurring tremors have drawn the attention of geoscientists. A local resident captured a video of a fan swaying on his mobile phone, which went viral on social media. Many locals believe that increased underground activity near the Aravalli hills is causing these frequent tremors.
