EAM S. Jaishankar Leads Meeting on India-Africa Relations, Discusses Trade and Investment

New Delhi, April 7: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar chaired a meeting of the Consultative Committee on India-Africa relations. The meeting took place at the Ministry of External Affairs in the national capital, focusing on enhancing India’s outreach to African nations, trade, and investment opportunities.

Minister Jaishankar shared insights on social media platform X, stating, “Today, I chaired the meeting of the Consultative Committee on India-Africa relations at the Ministry of External Affairs. We emphasized our historical ties and connections between our peoples.”

He highlighted discussions on India’s engagement with African countries, covering trade and investment, Lines of Credit (LOC) and grants, capacity building—especially in education and skills—defense, and cooperation in regional and multilateral forums.

Additionally, Dr. Jaishankar met with Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, the Foreign Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis, a two-island federal nation in the Caribbean Sea. Sharing pictures from the meeting on X, he expressed, “I was pleased to host Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry, Commerce, Consumer Affairs, Economic Development, and Investment of Saint Kitts and Nevis today. We discussed development projects, health cooperation, digital capacity, and disaster response. I appreciated our conversation on regional and global issues.”

India has demonstrated its commitment to the development and humanitarian assistance of the Global South by providing food aid to African nations such as Mozambique, Malawi, and Burkina Faso. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has sent 1,000 metric tons of rice to drought-affected Malawi, 1,000 metric tons to Burkina Faso, and 500 metric tons to flood-hit Mozambique.

Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “India has sent 1,000 metric tons of rice to Burkina Faso as humanitarian assistance. The aim is to ensure food security for vulnerable communities and internally displaced persons. This initiative reflects India’s ongoing commitment as a reliable partner for development, humanitarian assistance, and disaster relief for Global South countries.”
