Patna, June 1: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized 104.9 kilograms of cannabis in Bihar and arrested two suspects, according to an official report.
The arrests took place on Saturday, as confirmed by the authorities. During questioning, the suspects admitted to their involvement in the illegal transportation of controlled substances. They have been charged under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.
An official statement highlighted that this seizure is part of the DRI’s ongoing campaign against drug trafficking in the country. Over the past year, the DRI’s Lucknow regional unit has confiscated narcotic and psychotropic drugs worth approximately ₹46.5 crores from Bihar’s illegal market, leading to the arrest of 31 individuals.
The seized items include 107.5 kilograms of hashish, 1,277.81 kilograms of cannabis, 18.92 kilograms of high-quality hydroponic marijuana, 6 kilograms of cocaine, 112.8 grams of heroin, and 8,012 bottles of illegally sold codeine-based cough syrup.
Through coordinated operations, the DRI has consistently targeted organized gangs involved in drug trafficking, contributing to the Indian government’s vision of a ‘Drug-Free India.’
In a separate case in Kerala, the DRI seized over 24 kilograms of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances across the state. Under ‘Operation Chakravyuh,’ the DRI’s Kochi unit conducted coordinated operations in Kochi, Malappuram, and Thiruvananthapuram, seizing significant quantities of methaqualone, methamphetamine, and hash oil.
Five individuals, including key operatives allegedly linked to the smuggling network, were arrested under the NDPS Act.
