DRI Seizes 1.312 Kilograms of Amphetamine from Woman on Train in Nagpur

Nagpur, October 1 (Daily Kiran) : The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has made a significant drug seizure in Nagpur, apprehending a woman on an interstate train with 1.312 kilograms of amphetamine. The estimated street value of the drugs is around ₹1.05 crore.

On September 27, acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted a female passenger aboard the Hazrat Nizamuddin-KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express (Train No. 22692) at Nagpur railway station. The authorities suspected she was transporting narcotics in her luggage.

Upon boarding the train, officials conducted a thorough search of her belongings. They discovered a concealed compartment behind a layer of clothing in her suitcase. This hidden section, made from hard cardboard, contained two packets wrapped in blue carbon paper.

Field drug testing confirmed the presence of amphetamine in the seized substances. In total, the two packets contained 1.312 kilograms of the drug, leading to its confiscation under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act of 1985.

The woman was arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act and presented to the Holiday Court in Nagpur on the same day.

The DRI emphasized that its ongoing operations against organized drug trafficking networks, which operate across state borders, demonstrate its commitment to combatting drug smuggling and supporting the central government’s goal of a “drug-free India.”

In a separate operation, the DRI also seized 4.9 kilograms of cocaine at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad from a passenger arriving from Qatar. The cocaine was cleverly hidden inside chocolate tubes, with an estimated value of ₹24.5 crore. During baggage screening, officials noticed the unusual weight of the chocolate tubes, prompting a detailed inspection that led to the discovery of the drugs.

The DRI’s actions reflect its relentless pursuit of drug traffickers and its dedication to public safety.
