Mumbai, April 7: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is set to complete the reassessment of Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues for Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) by June. This extension follows ongoing reviews and was reported by PTI on April 7, 2026. The reassessment was initially scheduled to conclude by March 31.
Reassessment Timeline Extended Beyond March Deadline
Sources indicate that the reassessment will include a review of Spectrum Usage Charges (SUC). This review was initiated after an internal license fee reassessment conducted by the Controller of Communication Accounts. The extended timeline aims to ensure a thorough evaluation.
Consequently, the deadline has been moved to June, according to the sources.
Relief Package and Frozen Dues Explained
Earlier, the Union Cabinet provided relief to Vodafone Idea by freezing its AGR dues at Rs 87,695 crore for the period from FY 2006–07 to FY 2018–19, in line with directives from the Supreme Court.
However, these frozen dues are still subject to reassessment. Notably, AGR dues for FY 2017–18 and FY 2018–19, which were finalized by the Supreme Court’s ruling in 2020, are excluded and remain payable as determined.
Panel Formed to Finalise Outcome
In a written response to the Lok Sabha in February, Minister of State for Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar stated that the AGR dues frozen as of December 31, 2025, will undergo reassessment by the DoT according to deduction verification guidelines.
A committee formed by the DoT on January 30, 2026, has been tasked with finalizing the reassessment outcome. This panel includes a retired Secretary-level government official and a representative nominated by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). The committee is required to complete its review within two months unless an extension is granted.
The minister emphasized that the committee’s decision will be final and binding on both the DoT and Vodafone Idea, according to the report.
