DMK Leader Senthil Responds to CBI Summons Over Karur Tragedy

Chennai, March 10: Former Tamil Nadu minister and DMK leader Senthil Balaji has expressed his displeasure regarding conflicting media reports about the summons issued by the CBI in connection with the Karur tragedy.

In a post on X, Senthil Balaji stated, “Conflicting reports have emerged in some media outlets regarding the summons issued by the CBI concerning the Karur tragedy. The CBI has summoned me to appear in person on March 17 to provide clarification. I will attend and respond appropriately to their questions.”

It is noteworthy that the stampede at a rally held by actor-politician Vijay’s ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ party in Karur district on September 27, 2025, resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals, with over 100 injured. The Supreme Court has assigned the investigation to the CBI. A supervisory committee, led by retired Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi, is overseeing the investigation.

Actor Vijay expressed his sorrow over the incident and provided a financial aid of ₹20 lakh to the families of the deceased. He also communicated with some families via video conferencing. Reports indicate that the rally attracted more attendees than anticipated, leading to chaos and the unfortunate incident.

Vijay has been a prominent figure in Tamil cinema for over three decades. He launched his political party in 2024 and began his career as a child artist in Tamil films. Although his early films received average responses, he gained recognition through his roles in comedy and romantic films, eventually becoming known for his performances in socially relevant cinema. Fans affectionately refer to him as ‘Thalapathi.’
