Dehradun, March 3: The Siddhbali Temple, located in Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, is a significant pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Nestled amidst serene mountains, this temple is renowned for its mythological significance and deep-rooted religious beliefs.
The Siddhbali Temple is infused with a unique energy of peace and devotion. Every day, a large number of devotees visit to seek blessings. Alongside Hanuman, other deities are also worshipped here, and it is widely believed that no devotee leaves empty-handed.
Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami recently shared a special video of the temple on his social media platform. He stated, “The Siddhbali Temple in Kotdwar, Pauri Garhwal, is a center of Lord Hanuman’s boundless grace and the unwavering faith of devotees. This sacred site, filled with a tranquil atmosphere and devotional energy, attracts numerous visitors daily. Be sure to visit this holy place when you arrive in Pauri Garhwal.”
The Siddhbali Temple has been an essential part of Uttarakhand’s religious and cultural heritage. According to local beliefs, visiting the temple grants devotees the fulfillment of their wishes, and many hold community feasts (bhandara) after their prayers are answered.
A popular mythological tale surrounds the temple. It is said that Gorakhnath, considered an incarnation of Lord Shiva, is the founder of the Bhakti movement. He attained spiritual success in Kotdwar, leading to his title, Siddhbaba.
Gorakhnath’s guru was Machhendra, who, under the command of Bajrangbali, resided with the queen of the Tritya kingdom, Mainakani. Upon learning this, Gorakhnath set out to bring his guru back. During this journey, Hanuman transformed his appearance to block Gorakhnath’s path, resulting in a fierce battle between them, with neither emerging victorious. Eventually, Hanuman revealed his true form and requested a boon from Guru Gorakhnath, who then prayed for Hanuman to remain as the guardian of this sacred site.
