New Delhi, March 26: Across India, numerous temples are revered not only as places of worship but also for their miraculous powers. One such temple is the Mahari Mata Temple in Chhattisgarh, known for granting blessings to childless couples and healing the sick.
Nestled near the forests of Bilaspur, the Mahari Mata Temple attracts devotees from neighboring states each year. The temple is also referred to as Shmashanwasini, as it is believed to aid in the successful completion of spiritual rituals. Local lore suggests that merely visiting the temple can break even the most challenging spiritual obstacles, and many childless couples find hope here.
Devotees visit the temple to perform special prayers and offer donations once their wishes are fulfilled. A significant feature of the temple complex is an ancient tree known as the “wish tree,” where visitors tie red threads as a symbol of their desires. Many locals believe that those who place their faith in the goddess leave the temple in good health.
The temple houses several stone idols representing different forms of the goddess, including Kali, Durga, and Saraswati, alongside a Shiva Lingam. Additionally, miraculous footwear adorned with large thorns can be found within the temple. The main sanctum features a statue of the goddess equipped with weapons, and during Navratri, the temple sees an influx of devotees seeking divine blessings.
According to local history, the temple dates back to 1901. The self-manifested idol of the goddess was discovered by an ordinary person near a railway station, half-buried in the ground. This led to the establishment of the temple by the late retired railway employee, Sadanand Achari.
