New Delhi, March 18: In today’s fast-paced world, maintaining balance and mental peace is essential. One effective way to achieve this is through yoga, particularly the Tree Pose, or Vrikshasana. This pose helps stabilize both the body and mind.
Vrikshasana is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Vriksha,’ meaning ‘tree.’ This pose teaches us to find balance like a tree, which stands firm against strong winds and rain due to its roots. Similarly, practicing this asana helps us remain calm and steady in life’s challenges.
Performing the Tree Pose enhances leg strength, improves body balance, and increases focus. It involves standing on one leg while performing the Namaste mudra.
The Ministry of AYUSH in India has highlighted its significance. According to them, this balancing pose aids in enhancing concentration, mental clarity, and physical stability. Regular practice strengthens the spine, tones leg muscles, and improves neuro-muscular coordination. Additionally, it balances the Vata dosha, relieving stress and boosting concentration.
For optimal benefits, it is recommended to practice this pose on an empty stomach in the morning. If time constraints prevent morning practice, aim to do it 4 to 6 hours after eating.
Yoga experts suggest performing Trikonasana, Virabhadrasana, and Baddha Konasana before attempting the Tree Pose. It is advisable for individuals without any physical ailments to practice this asana.
Those with serious injuries or health issues should avoid this pose or consult a yoga expert before attempting it.
