New Delhi, August 15: Yoga is not only essential for maintaining physical health but also plays a significant role in calming and balancing the mind. Among various yoga poses, the Half Butterfly Pose, known as ‘Ardha Titali’ in Hindi, is considered simple yet effective. Regular practice of this pose enhances agility and alleviates stiffness caused by prolonged sitting.
This pose helps in stretching, strengthening, and lengthening the body. It opens the hips and hamstrings while providing a good stretch to the inner thighs, groin, and knees. Additionally, it promotes spinal elongation and flexibility, making the body more supple.
According to the Ministry of Ayush, the Half Butterfly Pose is an important micro-exercise. It involves placing one foot on the thigh and moving the knee up and down, which aids in relaxation, loosens tight muscles, and strengthens the leg muscles.
This pose is an excellent practice before meditation. Daily practice improves sitting posture and provides relief from chronic pain. It is particularly beneficial for individuals who find it difficult to sit cross-legged. Performing the Half Butterfly Pose every morning and evening not only relieves back tension but also enhances flexibility and aids in meditation.
The pose is easy to perform. Begin by sitting on the ground with your back straight and legs extended. Bend your right leg and place your foot on your left thigh. With your right hand, grasp your right knee and gently lift it up and down ten times. Repeat the same with your left leg. Ensure you perform the pose within your limits without straining. Regular practice will loosen your muscles and make the pose easier to perform.
Avoid this exercise if you have severe injuries or pain in your ankle, knee, or hip.
