Digvijaya Singh Urges PM Modi for White Paper on NEET Exam Irregularities

Bhopal, June 5: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the NEET-UG exam paper leak issue. He has demanded the release of a white paper addressing the incidents of paper leaks or irregularities in exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

The NEET (UG) 2026 exam, held on May 3, was canceled on May 12 due to allegations of paper leaks, and the investigation is currently being conducted by the CBI. The exam is set to be rescheduled for June 21.

In his letter, Singh highlighted the distress faced by students following the cancellation of the NEET exam. He stated that millions of students are under immense pressure, and it is crucial to restore their faith in the system. He expressed concern over the mental health impact on students due to the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 exam, emphasizing the need for clarity regarding the investigation into the leaked question papers.

Singh pointed out that there is currently no consolidated public record of actions taken by the CBI and other investigative agencies regarding the paper leak cases. The lack of official information has led to numerous reports and rumors circulating in place of facts.

He mentioned receiving repeated complaints about Sanjeev Kumar, the main accused in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak case in Hazaribagh, allegedly being out on bail. Additionally, he noted that the CBI reportedly filed a closure report stating that no irregularities occurred in the 2024 UGC-NEET exam, which the NTA had canceled at that time.

Referring to a Delhi court’s request for clarification on the CBI’s report, Singh stated that when the court sought a written explanation, the CBI requested more time. This delay in providing clarification has sent a negative message among students. He urged the government to release a white paper to restore confidence in the administration’s ability and readiness to deliver justice to Indian students. This white paper should list incidents of paper leaks or irregularities in exams conducted by the NTA over the past eight years.

The white paper should also include a record of actions taken by the NTA and investigative agencies, detailing the names of individuals arrested for each investigation, whether ongoing or completed, and whether charges or closure reports have been filed. It should clarify the reasons for filing closure reports and provide status updates on each accused individual, including whether they are under trial, on bail, or have been convicted.

Singh expressed hope that the Prime Minister would take immediate necessary actions in light of the seriousness of the issue and provide clear and factual information to the country’s students.
