Dhoni Boosts Team Indias Spirit at Edgbaston, Fans Give Warm Welcome

Birmingham, July 14: Former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni made a special appearance at Edgbaston to cheer for Team India during the first ODI against England. Fans gave him a rousing welcome as he enjoyed the match from the stands with his wife Sakshi and daughter Ziva. The presence of Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon added to the excitement of the event.

During the match, Dhoni also met former Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik. Previously, he had attended the third T20 match between India and England at Trent Bridge.

In the ongoing match, the English team, after winning the toss, opted to bat first but was restricted to 258 runs in 47.5 overs. The opening pair of Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethel managed to score 61 runs in 12.2 overs before the team faltered. England lost six wickets for just 107 runs. However, Liam Dawson and Joe Root formed a solid partnership, adding 121 runs for the seventh wicket off 134 balls, helping the team reach a competitive total.

Dawson scored 68 runs off 83 balls, hitting one six and six fours, while Root contributed 76 runs off 76 balls. For India, Axar Patel was the standout bowler, claiming four wickets, while Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Barar took two wickets each.

Meanwhile, England has included fast-bowling all-rounder Brydon Carse in their squad for the ODI series. Carse has recovered from wrist and elbow injuries and will join the host team for the remaining two matches. He last played an ODI on November 1, 2025, and featured in a Test match for England in January 2026 before being sidelined.
