Prayagraj, August 10: The second Monday of the Sawan month has transformed Uttar Pradesh into a hub of devotion and faith. From the early hours of Brahma Muhurat, long queues of devotees and Kanwariyas have formed outside Shiva temples. Chanting “Har-Har Mahadev” and “Bol Bam,” worshippers are arriving to perform water offerings.
The historic Dashashwamedh and Brahmeshwar Mahadev temples in Prayagraj have seen a continuous influx of devotees since morning. Worshippers are offering Ganga water to Lord Shiva, seeking blessings, prosperity, and the fulfillment of their wishes.
Som Ji Shastri, a temple priest, remarked, “The significance of this place lies in the fact that in ancient times, Lord Brahma performed the Ashwamedh Yagya here before initiating the creation of the universe and established Brahmeshwar Mahadev. There are two Shivlings here—Dashashwamedh Mahadev and Brahmeshwar Mahadev. It is believed that the current Dashashwamedh Mahadev is self-manifested.”
One devotee shared, “This temple is very ancient. All devotees who come here worship with discipline and devotion. The temple holds immense religious significance, and it is believed that wishes made here are surely fulfilled.”
At the historic Prithvinath temple in Gonda, the arrival of devotees began early in the morning. Thousands offered water to the Shivling and performed prayers. A returning devotee stated, “We have completed our darshan and are now heading home. Our faith in Lord Shiva is unwavering. May God bless everyone, including me.”
On Monday, millions of Kanwariyas were seen at the Kachhla Ghat and Soron Ji Lehar Ganga Ghat in Kasganj district. Before returning home, devotees collected holy Ganga water to take to various Shiva temples across districts and states. Many Kanwariyas set off on foot from Kachhla Ghat to the famous Bateshwar Dham located in the Shikohabad tehsil of Firozabad.
To ensure the safety of devotees, the administration implemented strict measures. Checkpoints were established on major routes, and police presence was increased to facilitate a safe and smooth journey for the Kanwariyas.
In Sitapur district, a large crowd gathered at Baba Shyam Nath temple for water offerings on the second Monday of Sawan. Long lines formed outside the temple, and the area resonated with chants of “Har-Har Mahadev.”
City Officer Kapoor Kumar stated, “Robust security arrangements have been made. Today is the second Monday of Sawan, and the number of devotees has significantly increased compared to the first Monday. In light of this, police deployment has also been intensified. Additional forces and PAC personnel have been stationed to manage the crowd and ensure everyone’s safety.”
