Devotees Gather for Grand Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar Temple

Ujjain, August 18: On the auspicious occasion of Shukla Paksha Shashthi, a grand Bhasma Aarti was held at the Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine spectacle.

Early Tuesday morning, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and mantras.

With the opening of the temple gates, the ritual of Jalabhishek was performed, using Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices. Baba Mahakal was adorned with a crescent moon on his forehead. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. Following the Kapoor Aarti, Baba donned a crown. The Bhasma Aarti was then conducted amidst the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells, showcasing the grand decoration of Baba Mahakal.

The temple priest conducted the Mahaarati, and many devotees were able to witness the Bhasma Aarti. A significant number of devotees had queued up since the previous night to have a glimpse of their revered deity. It is customary for men to wear traditional dhoti-sola and women to wear sarees during the Bhasma Aarti.
