Ujjain, August 11: On the occasion of Shravan Krishna Paksha Trayodashi, the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was performed at the Mahakaleshwar Temple. A large number of devotees gathered to witness this divine spectacle.
Early on Tuesday, after seeking the blessings of Lord Veerabhadra, the temple doors were opened with the sound of drums and trumpets. As the devotees caught their first glimpse of Baba Mahakal following the elaborate decoration and Bhasma Aarti, the temple resonated with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal.” The atmosphere was filled with the sounds of bells, conch shells, and the recitation of mantras.
For the Shravan month Shivratri, Baba Mahakal was adorned with Vaishnav tilak and Om symbols. A garland of Lord Ram was placed around his neck, allowing devotees to see the divine in both formless and form.
As the temple doors opened, the idol of Lord Mahakal was bathed with Panchamrit made from milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, and fruit juices amidst the chanting of mantras. Baba Mahakal wore a crescent moon on his forehead. During the worship, the first bell was rung, and Hari Om water was offered. After the camphor aarti, Baba donned a new crown, followed by the Bhasma Aarti accompanied by the sounds of cymbals, drums, and conch shells.
The temple priest conducted the Maha Aarti, and many devotees witnessed the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. Devotees had queued up since the previous night to have a glimpse of their revered deity. During the Bhasma Aarti, men were required to wear traditional dhoti-sola, while women donned sarees.
