Ujjain, April 4: The world-renowned Shri Mahakaleshwar Temple witnessed a massive influx of devotees during the Bhasma Aarti on Saturday morning. A special Bhasma Aarti was organized, attracting thousands of enthusiastic worshippers.
Devotees from across the country and abroad stood in long queues from late night, eager to have a glimpse of their beloved deity. According to the temple priest, Pandit Mahesh Sharma, the Bhasma Aarti commenced at 4 AM, filling the entire temple complex with divine sounds.
As per tradition, the temple doors were opened after receiving permission from Veerabhadra. Subsequently, priests performed the Panchamrit Abhishek and worship of Lord Mahakal. The Mahanirvani Akhara then offered Bhasma to the Shivling, allowing devotees to witness the deity in both formless and manifested forms.
On the occasion of the second day of Vaishakh Krishna Paksha, Lord Mahakal was adorned with bhang, tripund, moon, and bel leaves, enhancing his divine and beautiful appearance. Devotees took advantage of the divine darshan, with chants of “Jai Shri Mahakal” echoing throughout the temple, creating a spiritually uplifting atmosphere. A significant number of devotees received blessings from Baba Mahakal on this auspicious day.
Following the adornment of Mahakal, a Kapoor Aarti was performed, and offerings were made. This form of Baba is considered to be the manifested version. The Bhasma Aarti holds special significance worldwide, drawing devotees from far and wide to witness this sacred ritual.
During the Bhasma Aarti, women traditionally cover their faces with veils, while men wear dhotis. To participate in the morning Bhasma Aarti, devotees must book online in advance through the Mahakaleshwar Temple’s website.
