Barsana, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : A vibrant display of faith unfolded in Barsana, Uttar Pradesh, as thousands of devotees gathered to celebrate Radha Ashtami at the Shri Radha Rani Temple on Saturday. Pilgrims from across the country arrived to pay their respects and partake in the joyous festivities surrounding the birth anniversary of Radha Rani. The temple and its surroundings resonated with chants of devotion throughout the day.
The celebrations began early, with a grand abhishekam (ritual bathing) of Radha Rani taking place around 4 AM during the auspicious Brahma Muhurta. Following traditional practices, the abhishekam utilized various herbs, silver vessels, and other ceremonial offerings. Devotees immersed themselves in worship, chanting mantras as they sought blessings from Radha Rani.
The atmosphere in Barsana was charged with religious fervor as long queues formed outside the temple, allowing many to experience the divine presence. Radha Ashtami is celebrated as the day of Radha Rani’s appearance, and observing fasts and performing rituals on this day is believed to bring love, happiness, and peace into one’s life.
This festival is particularly significant in the Braj region, including Mathura and Vrindavan. Radha is revered as the ‘Hladini Shakti,’ or the divine energy that brings joy. Without her, the worship of Lord Krishna is considered incomplete. Devotees believe that those who observe Radha Ashtami with sincerity and devotion receive blessings from both Radha Rani and Lord Krishna, leading to a life filled with peace and the removal of sins.
According to Hindu mythology, Radha Rani was born in Barsana to parents Vrishabhanu and Kirtida. A popular tale recounts that she did not open her eyes until she first laid eyes on Lord Krishna. Upon seeing him, she smiled, symbolizing the deep spiritual connection between them.
The day concluded with an overwhelming sense of devotion, as Barsana transformed into a hub of spiritual celebration.
