Major Raids at 18 Spa Centers in Gurugrams Sapphire 90 Mall, Over 40 People Detained

Gurugram police and the Haryana Womens Commission conducted a major raid on spa centers, detaining over 40 individuals amid illegal activity allegations.

Gurugram, September 19 (Daily Kiran) : A significant operation unfolded at Sapphire 90 Mall in Gurugram’s Sector 90, where authorities raided 18 spa centers suspected of illegal activities. The raid, conducted by the Haryana State Women’s Commission in collaboration with Gurugram Police, began late Friday night and lasted for approximately six hours, concluding around 3 AM on Saturday.

According to police reports, around 70 to 100 officers participated in the operation, including approximately 20 inspectors and sub-inspectors. During the raid, authorities detained about 20 young men and more than 20 young women for questioning. Concerns were raised by the Women’s Commission regarding the possibility of some of the detained women being minors. However, confirmation of their ages and further details will be determined following the investigation.

Preliminary findings indicated that evidence of suspicious illegal activities was discovered in eight of the 18 spa centers. Authorities seized electronic devices, digital evidence, and various physical documents during the operation. Investigators are now looking into the roles of spa center owners, operators, managers, and other associates. Additionally, some centers reportedly had objectionable items and suspected narcotics on the premises.

Complaints about the spa centers had been received by the Haryana State Women’s Commission from local shopkeepers over the past several months. Taking these complaints seriously, the Commission coordinated with Gurugram Police and district administration for this joint operation, which also included the presence of a duty magistrate.

Gurugram Police’s Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abhilaksh Joshi, stated that the operation was initiated based on information received under the direction of the Women’s Commission chairperson and the police commissioner. He confirmed that the raid covered 18 to 19 spa centers, and evidence was confiscated.

The police have initiated action under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act in connection with the case. Reports have emerged suggesting that some women may have been coerced into prostitution. Authorities are continuing their investigation based on the allegations, seized evidence, and interviews with those detained.
