Devdutt Padikkal Shines with Century as India Strengthens Position in Warm-Up Match

Colombo, August 8: India has solidified its position against the Sri Lanka Cricket XI in a three-day warm-up match at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground. By the end of the second day, India scored 357 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their first innings, trailing the hosts by just 6 runs.

Winning the toss, the Sri Lankan team opted to bat first and declared their innings at 363/8. Nishan Madushka and Ravindu Rasanjana formed a solid opening partnership, contributing 110 runs. Nishan scored 66 runs with 12 boundaries before returning to the pavilion. Following his dismissal, Ravindu added 71 runs, partnering with Pasindu Sooriyabandara for 61 runs for the second wicket, pushing the score to 171.

Pasindu scored 35 runs with 6 fours before getting out, while Ravindu’s innings included 7 boundaries. Captain Sonal Dinuja then added 52 runs, partnering with Ramesh Mendis to secure 63 runs for the seventh wicket, taking the team past 300. Ramesh contributed 32 runs to the total. For India, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar each took 2 wickets, while Gurnoor Barar claimed 1 wicket.

In response, India faced an early setback, losing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck on the second ball of the innings. However, Devdutt Padikkal steadied the innings, forming a 96-run partnership with captain KL Rahul for the second wicket. KL Rahul scored 40 runs, including 1 six and 5 fours, before getting out.

Devdutt Padikkal remained unbeaten on 142 runs, striking 18 fours. Ravindra Jadeja contributed 63 runs before retiring hurt, while Manav Suthar added 41 runs. From the Sri Lankan side, Ramesh Mendis and Asanka Manoj each took 2 wickets, while Vishwa Fernando and Keshara Nuwanthika claimed 1 wicket each.

Following this warm-up match, Team India will face Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series, with the first match starting on August 15 in Galle. The second match will commence on August 23 in Colombo.
