Delhis Chief Minister Launches Metro Monday Initiative to Promote Public Transport

New Delhi, May 18: Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the ‘Metro Monday’ initiative on Monday. As part of this initiative, she traveled by metro to her office at the Delhi Secretariat. Accompanying her were Delhi government ministers Pravesh Verma and Indraj Singh, along with security personnel monitoring their activities. After disembarking from the metro, they continued their journey to the office via electric bus.

This initiative is viewed as significant under the ‘Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdaan’ campaign, focusing on public transport, fuel conservation, and citizen participation. Following the Chief Minister’s call, several ministers and officials from the Delhi government opted for the metro instead of private vehicles. This shift aims to reduce dependence on personal transport while increasing the passenger load on the metro system. The metro authorities have already prepared to manage this increased demand.

In a conversation with reporters, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta urged the public to increase their reliance on public transport. She stated that doing so would bring multiple benefits to Delhi’s residents, primarily alleviating pollution issues. Additionally, greater use of public transport could significantly reduce traffic congestion. Keeping these factors in mind, she appealed to all Delhi residents to decrease their reliance on private vehicles and make public transport an integral part of their lives.

She further emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that residents face no difficulties while using public transport. A comprehensive plan has been established, and the government is currently working to implement it.

The Chief Minister stressed that if every individual in Delhi takes this appeal seriously, many of the city’s problems could be resolved automatically. This initiative, ‘Metro Monday,’ was launched with this vision, and all officials were encouraged to travel by metro.

She expressed her satisfaction at witnessing many people arriving at their offices via metro, viewing it as a positive sign.

Earlier, on May 17, the Delhi Metro announced an increase in extra train trips. Previously, there were only six additional trips, which have now been expanded to 24. The primary goal is to reduce reliance on private vehicles.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) stated that an increase in passenger numbers following the introduction of extra trips is expected. To address this situation, the DMRC has developed a comprehensive plan that is now being implemented.

To manage the increased passenger flow, the DMRC has decided to deploy a significant number of security personnel at metro stations to effectively handle any challenging situations.
