New Delhi, 2 January: The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on Friday announced that the average concentration levels of particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) in Delhi in 2025 were the lowest recorded since 2018.

The ministry stated that the daily average of PM10 in Delhi was 198 in 2025, compared to 212 in 2024 and 242 in 2018.

Similarly, the daily average of PM2.5 was 97 in 2025, down from 105 in 2024 and 114 in 2018, according to the ministry’s statement.

Sharing data over eight years, the ministry noted that since the establishment of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in 2021, several policy measures and ground-level actions have been implemented to reduce air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

This announcement came alongside the CAQM sub-committee’s decision to lift restrictions under the third phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

Delhi’s Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa attributed the improving air quality to continuous ground efforts led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

The city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) dropped from 380 on Thursday to 236 on Friday.

Minister Sirsa emphasised that despite the removal of GRAP phase three restrictions, strict and focused campaigns on the ground would continue with the same priority.

He urged that this is not the time to relax but to double efforts and strengthen the achievements made so far. Every small victory inspires the team to make Delhi’s air cleaner every day.

In the last 24 hours, the Environment Department and related civic agencies reported a significant increase in anti-pollution activities.

During this period, 6,596 challans were issued for vehicle emissions violations. Additionally, 12,000 metric tonnes of waste were removed from various city areas, and 6,261 kilometres of roads were mechanically cleaned to reduce dust.

The minister reaffirmed Delhi’s ongoing and determined fight against pollution.

He added that the city is continuously learning, adapting, and improving. Today’s progress motivates Delhi to set even higher goals for the future.
