Mumbai, April 8: A young man from Jalna district in Maharashtra has been arrested for creating and circulating an objectionable video on social media. The video tarnished the image of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and spread misleading information regarding the plane crash involving former Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
The Cyber Cell of the Western Regional Police Department identified the suspect as Uddhav Bhagwan Kapse. Following his arrest, he was brought to Mumbai for legal proceedings. A local court in Bandra has remanded him to police custody until April 10.
According to Mumbai police, Kapse’s objectionable video was viewed approximately 150,000 times before it was removed from social media. The investigation revealed that the video contained misleading and offensive content targeting the Chief Minister, along with misrepresentation of facts related to the plane crash.
In response to the viral video, senior officials instructed the Cyber Cell to file a case. The police removed the video from social media and registered an FIR against an unknown individual for circulating fake and objectionable content, defaming public figures.
During the investigation, technical analysis traced the video’s source back to Jalna district. Acting on this information, a police team apprehended Kapse in the village of Buttegav.
Police officials stated that Kapse is a resident of Buttegav and has completed up to 10th grade. He lives with his parents. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to compiling available footage and using AI tools to create and share the video.
After his arrest, Kapse was presented in Bandra court on Tuesday afternoon, where he was remanded to three days of police custody.
Previously, on March 26, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis remarked that the zero FIR registered in Bengaluru regarding the plane crash that endangered Ajit Pawar’s life on January 28 was allegedly an attempt by the Congress-led Karnataka government to defame the state.
