New Delhi, August 5: The Delhi Police’s Central District has apprehended 11 Bangladeshi nationals for violating the conditions of their double-entry visas. These individuals overstayed their permitted duration during each visit.
This operation was part of ‘Operation Vista 1.0’ (Visa Status Verification), initiated by the Foreigners Cell of the Central District’s Special Staff. The campaign aimed to identify foreign nationals who either overstayed their visas or violated their visa conditions while residing in the capital.
Under this operation, a specialized police team was formed, led by Inspector Sandeep Dabas of the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) and closely monitored by ACP (Operations) Padam Singh Rana.
On the night between Monday and Tuesday, during patrols in the Paharganj area, the police team received credible information from a reliable source about Bangladeshi nationals whose visas had expired and were residing illegally in Delhi.
Upon receiving this tip-off, the police arrested a man named Naeem Ahmed from Sylhet, Bangladesh, and questioned him about his identity and residence. During the interrogation, he revealed that he was a Bangladeshi citizen currently living in Paharganj.
He presented his Bangladeshi passport, which the police verified on-site. The investigation revealed that the passport was issued on March 23 and that his permission to stay in India was only valid until June 28.
However, he allegedly remained in the country beyond the allowed duration without any valid extension or legal permission, thus violating immigration laws. During further questioning, Naeem Ahmed reportedly disclosed that several other Bangladeshi nationals were also residing illegally in Delhi after their visa periods had expired.
This information was promptly relayed to the AATS in charge, who directed the formation of a special police team to confirm the input and take further action.
Based on the information and identity provided by Naeem Ahmed, the police team raided Flat No. 158 in Hauz Rani, Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, where ten more Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly living illegally.
The police detained all ten individuals and checked their passports and travel documents. The investigation revealed that they had all overstayed their visas and had no legal right to remain in India.
The findings were again reported to the AATS in charge, who instructed the initiation of legal proceedings to deport all 11 Bangladeshi nationals from the country.
The detained individuals have been identified as Tahmid Ahmed Tanjid (19), Sajjad Hussain (25), Sabir Ahmed (28), Naeem Ahmed (22), Kamal Hossain (43), Shakeel Ahmed Naeem (23), MD Ashraful Haque Mamun (35), Sultan Ahmed Sojib (29), Mujammil Ahmed (30), Bakhtiyar Ahmed Johuri (29), and Zakariya (26).
According to officials, checks of their passports, visas, and immigration records revealed that all 11 had entered India on double-entry visas, which allowed them to stay for a maximum of 15 days during each visit.
However, the investigation found that they had all allegedly remained in India beyond the permitted duration, violating the conditions of their visas.
After their arrest, all 11 foreign nationals were presented before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO). The FRRO initiated necessary legal actions and ordered their detention until the process for their deportation was completed.
