Washington, August 5: President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated that if the Strait of Hormuz is not opened soon, significant action will be taken against Iran.
Trump remarked, “We are having very good discussions with Iran.” However, Tehran has outright rejected this claim. In the Oval Office, Trump mentioned that he is giving Iran a final chance to open the strait.
He added, “They will make a quick decision, one way or another. This is not a complicated matter. We are discussing the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.”
Yet, Iran has made it clear that there are no ongoing talks with the U.S. During a press briefing in Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Bakai stated, “Currently, we are not in any negotiations with the U.S.” He noted that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is on a visit to Iraq, while all other negotiators remain in Iran.
Trump responded on the social media platform Truth Social, writing, “The Iranian leadership is extremely duplicitous. First, they beg for a meeting, then they openly claim that no discussions are taking place.”
Ismail Bakai mentioned that Iran is negotiating with Oman, located across the strait. According to Tasnim News Agency, this is a temporary arrangement aimed at ensuring maritime security in this strategic waterway. Bakai confirmed that no third country is involved in the Muscat-Tehran talks.
Trump asserted that Iran is alarmed by reports of an impending attack. He stated that this attack would be the largest and most severe since World War II. “We want to talk about the Strait of Hormuz,” he emphasized.
