Chennai, August 5: Udhayanidhi Stalin, the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, has criticized Chief Minister C. Vijay Joseph following his release from police custody. He alleges that the government orchestrated his arrest to divert attention from pressing issues.
Stalin was taken into custody from his home for allegedly making offensive remarks about Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and actress Trisha Krishnan. After being interrogated at the Sengipatti police station in Thanjavur district, he was released on bail late at night.
In a post on X, Stalin stated, “The ‘Sofa Government,’ which has failed to address farmers’ issues, is arresting me to distract from real problems. The Chief Minister has used the ruling party to defame me. He accused me of using indecent language during the Thanjavur protests. They have tried to appease someone by filing false cases and making me run back and forth between Chennai and Thanjavur.”
Stalin further remarked, “At the time of my arrest, I told the media that I consider this arrest a farce. I was not fleeing from the police. However, the entire country knows how the current Chief Minister fled in fear of arrest despite the deaths of 41 people in Karur. He neither met the victims’ families nor faced the media. This is the same person who traveled to Malaysia for a dance performance to promote a film the month after so many lives were lost.”
He added, “While the Chief Minister may fear arrest, I do not. I am the grandson of Kalaignar and the son of Muthuveil Karunanidhi Stalin.”
Stalin concluded, “If I must be arrested for fighting for farmers, I am ready to be arrested not once, but a hundred times. I am prepared to march not just 300 kilometers, but over 3,000 kilometers for the welfare of farmers. Nothing will stop me! I thank the leaders who condemned my arrest and the party members across Tamil Nadu who showed solidarity in my support.”
