New Delhi, October 5 (Daily Kiran) : Protests erupted recently at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, where a female journalist accused a police officer of misconduct during demonstrations regarding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and issues surrounding EVMs. Congress leader Mumtaz Patel questioned the police’s handling of the situation, highlighting the lack of action despite the serious allegations.
Patel pointed out that it has been 48 hours without an FIR being registered, criticizing the police for their arrogance. The journalist was reportedly shuffled between police stations, preventing her from attending a press conference. She is currently caught in the police system, which Patel claims is treating her poorly.
The Congress leader emphasized that an independent journalist has raised a serious issue of sexual harassment. Despite the public’s support for the victim, Patel accused the police of shielding their own while taking action against the complainant. She noted that many women fear coming forward due to the risk of detention rather than protection.
Patel stated that citizens are taking to the streets to protest against electoral fraud and to demand their rights. She warned that the public is becoming increasingly aware and prepared for a larger movement.
In related remarks, AAP leader Sanjeev Jha highlighted the significance of an upcoming event on the 10th, expecting a large turnout in Delhi. He condemned Gyanesh Kumar for betraying the public trust and called for his resignation, asserting that individuals like him should face charges of treason and imprisonment.
