New Delhi, February 16: The police at the Ghitorni Metro station in the national capital have arrested a suspect involved in two iPhone theft cases. Authorities report that the individual has a history of similar offenses.
On February 13, two separate e-FIRs were filed at the Ghitorni police station regarding the theft of iPhones. Due to the similar modus operandi in both incidents, the police initiated a special investigation, considering it an organized pattern.
A special “crack team,” led by Sub-Inspector Rajendra and Raj Kumar, was formed. The team reviewed CCTV footage from various metro stations and surrounding areas, including Hauz Khas. During the investigation, they identified a suspicious individual who deliberately pushed a complainant, seizing the mobile phone amidst the chaos and fleeing the scene.
Based on technical surveillance and tips from informants, the police conducted a raid and apprehended the suspect, Daljeet Singh, also known as Dalbir Singh (42), near Uttam Nagar. During interrogation, he confessed to his involvement in both e-FIRs, revealing that he sold fruits in Uttam Nagar but turned to theft and snatching to fund his drug addiction. He specifically targeted expensive mobile phones, particularly iPhones, which he would steal and sell.
He admitted that the money he earned was used to sustain his drug habit, leading him to continue stealing phones once the funds ran out.
According to police records, the suspect has been active since 2008 and is classified as a “bad character,” with a total of nine criminal cases registered against him. Six of these cases are from the Ghitorni Metro station, while others are from Rajiv Chowk Metro station, Shastri Park Metro station, and Paharganj police station. The police have placed him in judicial custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
Authorities have indicated that they are also in contact with the suspect’s family and are searching for his accomplices.
