Delhi High Court Ruling Offers Relief from Waste Issues in Unauthorized Colonies

New Delhi, February 5: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hailed the Delhi High Court’s decision regarding waste disposal in unauthorized colonies as a significant victory. The court has clearly stated that waste cannot be dumped in these areas, providing hope for thousands of residents in Delhi’s rural regions who have long suffered from waste-related problems.

Saurabh Bhardwaj, the Delhi state president of AAP, welcomed the ruling, asserting that the government has finally faced consequences in court. He accused the government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) of colluding to dump thousands of truckloads of waste in unauthorized colonies and rural areas, turning residents’ lives into a nightmare. The court’s order has exposed the government’s false claims about reducing waste mountains.

Bhardwaj stated on social media that the Delhi High Court has made it clear that dumping waste in unauthorized colonies is illegal. Despite this, the government has remained indifferent, forcing local residents to seek justice in court. He alleged that the government is deliberately pushing the poor and rural populations towards health crises while seeking false accolades.

He highlighted the severe waterlogging and pollution caused by waste dumping on DDA land in Sharma Colony, Kiraadi. AAP has consistently raised this issue, opposing the dumping of waste from the Bhalswa landfill site in Delhi’s rural areas. Bhardwaj visited Sharma Colony on January 27 to assess the situation, where he claimed that waste from the Bhalswa landfill has spread across several areas of Kiraadi, creating mounds of garbage four feet high on the roads. This plastic and chemical-laden waste is gradually contaminating the soil, air, and groundwater, leading to toxic well water that could pose serious health risks in the coming years.

The Aam Aadmi Party views the High Court’s decision as a major relief for the residents of Delhi’s rural areas and hopes that the government and MCD will strictly adhere to this order, putting an end to the conspiracy to turn these areas into garbage dumps.
