New Delhi, June 7: Under the strict directives of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government is rigorously implementing a zero-tolerance policy against illegal constructions and encroachments. A large-scale campaign is currently underway in the capital to tackle these issues.
Various agencies are actively engaged in extensive actions, including demolitions, sealing of properties, and issuing show-cause notices. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that the government is committed to enforcing this zero-tolerance policy against unauthorized constructions, encroachments, violations of fire safety standards, and any activities that pose a threat to citizens’ lives and property.
The government is not only taking action but is also working on establishing a permanent system to effectively curb such dangerous and illegal constructions in the future. The Chief Minister also mentioned that the Delhi government is seriously exploring the possibility of developing a third-party insurance system for buildings.
According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Revenue Department, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and other relevant agencies are conducting extensive enforcement operations across various areas of the capital. The Revenue Department has inspected 124 properties and taken action where violations were found.
In the past six days, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has demolished a total of 94 properties and sealed 114 others. Additionally, the DDA has been directed to strengthen its enforcement mechanisms against encroachments and illegal constructions. The government’s goal is to ensure that no construction, business activity, or public utility poses a threat to the safety of the people.
The Chief Minister stated that the Delhi government is not limited to enforcement but is also focused on finding a permanent solution to the problem. She has instructed officials to work on developing a third-party insurance system for buildings, guest houses, nursing homes, and other public-use structures that see large foot traffic.
According to the Chief Minister, insurance companies will only provide coverage if the structural safety and necessary safety standards of the respective buildings are ensured. This will increase the pressure on property owners to comply with safety regulations and help strengthen public safety. The Chief Minister also directed the development of a digital tracking system to make the fire department’s response process completely transparent.
The Revenue Department of the Delhi government inspected a total of 124 sites across various districts. According to the department, notices were issued to violators after inspecting 10 sites in the North district, 10 in the East district, 21 in the West district, 13 in the Southwest district, and 10 in the Central district (North). In the South district, 11 properties were sealed during the inspection of 30 sites, and show-cause notices were issued in 19 cases. Three unauthorized buildings were demolished in the Outer North district due to violations of building regulations.
Sealing notices were issued in New Delhi district, while closure notices were issued in the Central district. In Old Delhi district, the fire department’s NOC was found to be available, but the case was sent to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi for necessary action due to the lack of building approval. No violations were found during inspections in the Southeast district.
As part of the campaign against illegal constructions, from June 1 to June 6, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi demolished a total of 94 properties, sealed 114 properties, issued 84 show-cause notices for unauthorized constructions, sent sealing notices to 41 properties, and issued 33 demolition orders.
During this campaign, the Municipal Corporation has intensified actions against illegal constructions on both legal and physical fronts. The department has not only taken steps to remove illegal constructions but has also continuously issued notices and orders to prevent such activities in the future.
