New Delhi, March 28: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attended the closing ceremony and award distribution event of ‘Yashotsav 2026’ held at Yashobhoomi in Dwarka on Saturday. During the event, she honored exceptional students and athletes. As part of this initiative, the Delhi government awarded laptops to 1,200 top-ranking students for their outstanding academic achievements.
Winners of the ‘Delhi Sports Mahakumbh 2025-26’ were also recognized. Thousands of young athletes participated in this event. Additionally, 222 high-achieving students from classes 10 and 12, along with 34 top-performing schools, were celebrated.
In her address, the Chief Minister emphasized that these achievements reflect not only the hard work of the students but also the guidance and support from teachers and parents. She stated, “This is not just an award distribution ceremony; it is a celebration of our youth’s dedication, discipline, and success.”
Rekha Gupta reiterated the government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities in both education and sports, enabling youth to fulfill their aspirations.
The Chief Minister announced that approximately 9,000 classrooms have been equipped with smart boards in the 2025-26 academic year. To enhance access to quality, technology-based education, 275 schools have established computer labs, and 100 schools have launched digital libraries.
She highlighted the government’s goal to transform every school into a fully digital environment, equipped with smart classrooms, computer and language labs, and modern libraries, allowing students to pursue higher education in prestigious institutions both in India and abroad.
Referring to the National Education Policy 2020 implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the Chief Minister noted that it has made the education system more comprehensive, inclusive, and future-ready.
She added, “Our focus is not limited to textbooks but on creating a modern, digital learning ecosystem. Initiatives like distributing laptops will help students connect with new technologies and prepare for global competition.”
The Chief Minister also praised the successful organization of the Delhi Sports Mahakumbh, which provided a platform for over 25,000 athletes and contributed to promoting sports culture in the capital.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing training, resources, and encouragement to athletes. Under the ‘Chief Minister Sports Promotion Scheme,’ a total of ₹50 crore has been allocated for training and resources, with ₹35 crore released earlier and an additional ₹15 crore recently.
The Chief Minister stated that the government is working to ensure that every young person in Delhi, whether in education or sports, receives the right opportunities, recognition, and support to advance.
Education Minister Ashish Sood remarked that the ₹1.03 lakh crore budget presented by the Chief Minister is historic, with approximately ₹19,000 crore earmarked for education. This reflects the government’s commitment to the holistic development of students and changing perceptions about government schools.
He praised the efforts of education department officials, teachers, parents, and students in making this vision a reality. Sood described Yashobhoomi as a symbol of youth achievements, stating that Delhi’s true pride lies in its students, whether they are 222 CBSE toppers, 79 differently-abled achievers, or the 25,000 athletes participating in the Sports Mahakumbh.
He noted that the large participation in the Sports Mahakumbh was made possible by opening 16 grounds and stadiums for athletes, allowing sports to progress beyond limited infrastructure.
The Education Minister further announced incentives of ₹7 crore, ₹5 crore, and ₹3 crore for gold, silver, and bronze medal winners at the Olympics, respectively. He emphasized that education and sports are not tools of politics but the foundation of nation-building.
He stated that the government is focused on developing a winning mindset among youth. He also highlighted several initiatives in the education sector, including art festivals, the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ program, Sardar Patel painting competitions, 280 children’s parks, support for differently-abled students, efforts to mainstream out-of-school children, and the establishment of over 100 drone clubs.
Sood concluded by saying that this is just the beginning. The government’s goal is to establish Delhi as a leader in education and sports at both national and international levels. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi is fully prepared to emerge as the ‘Sporting Capital’ of the country.
