New Delhi, June 26: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has ordered an immediate inspection of Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh following a complaint received during a public hearing.
A team of officials promptly visited the hospital and identified several irregularities, prompting the government to initiate a comprehensive investigation.
In a statement from the Chief Minister’s office, it was emphasized, “If any irregularities are proven during the investigation, strict action will be taken. Every hospital in Delhi is obligated to serve patients with responsibility and integrity, and there can be no compromise on the timely and respectful treatment of patients.”
This inspection was conducted as a result of complaints raised during the ‘CM Jan Sunwai’ program, a public grievance redressal initiative launched by the Delhi government in February 2026. This platform allows citizens to voice issues related to government services and civic amenities.
Through this portal and mobile app, residents can file complaints across various departments, including the municipal corporation, Delhi Development Authority, and Delhi Police.
The Chief Minister has previously stated that such public hearings are not mere formalities but effective means to understand and resolve people’s issues. She has instructed officials to address complaints in a timely manner and has personally listened to grievances from her Shalimar Bagh constituency.
Fortis Hospital Shalimar Bagh has been at the center of legal disputes due to allegations of medical negligence stemming from a high-profile case in 2017. Recently, the Delhi High Court ordered a re-evaluation of the qualifications of two doctors associated with the hospital. This case involves a child who suffered severe and permanent brain damage while receiving treatment in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The Delhi Medical Council has already prohibited these two doctors from presenting themselves as ‘neonatologists’ or super-specialists until their qualifications are thoroughly reviewed.
The government has stated that the inspection team’s report will be fully examined, and strict measures will be taken if any irregularities are found.
The Chief Minister has consistently advocated for patient rights and improved healthcare services, reiterating the government’s commitment to prompt and transparent resolution of public complaints.
