
New Delhi, March 19: In preparation for the 2026-27 budget, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta held a series of discussions with workers, farmers, rural representatives, and labor groups at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday. The aim was to align the budget with the needs and expectations of all societal segments.
According to an official statement, the Chief Minister conducted separate meetings with each group, allowing participants to share their experiences and voice their concerns, suggestions, and expectations. She emphasized that public participation is the greatest strength for a developed Delhi.
The Chief Minister directly engaged with attendees, listened attentively to their inputs, and assured them that their suggestions would be prioritized in the upcoming budget. She stated that the government aims to present a budget that reflects the aspirations of every segment of society.
Labor Minister Kapil Mishra and Delhi Rural Development Board Chairman Rajkumar Chauhan were also present at the meetings.
During the discussions, gig workers and drivers stressed the need for solid policies to improve working conditions and ensure social security. One of the key demands was the establishment of adequate and safe parking facilities for drivers. They also urged the government to expand electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure and provide subsidies for women purchasing electric vehicles.
On the issue of social security, participants called for integrating gig workers into the provident fund system and unifying health plans. Several representatives advocated for recognizing gig workers as ’employees’ rather than ‘partners.’ They proposed forming a dedicated workforce to address their concerns and protect their interests.
Other demands included the construction of rest facilities for drivers and workers, increasing the number of public toilets, and implementing practical reforms in traffic regulations.
Participants highlighted discrepancies between central and state labor laws, urging for harmonization to ensure effective benefits for workers. The statement noted that farmers and rural representatives presented various demands to strengthen agricultural infrastructure, including improvements in irrigation facilities, rural road development, and enhancements to the market system. They also stressed the need to upgrade basic rural amenities such as drainage, sanitation, drinking water, and electricity.
