New Delhi, March 17: The Delhi Assembly’s budget session will take place from March 23 to 25, as announced following a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat on March 16.
According to cabinet decisions, the Economic Survey Report will be presented in the assembly on March 23. The Delhi government will unveil its budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 on March 24.
In another significant decision, the Delhi Cabinet approved two major infrastructure projects: the Barapulla Phase-3 Elevated Corridor and a six-lane elevated corridor with an underpass on MB Road. These projects aim to reduce traffic congestion and facilitate smoother travel in the national capital.
Chief Minister Gupta stated that these initiatives will provide relief to millions of commuters and enhance the road network in Delhi. She emphasized that these steps are crucial towards building a ‘developed Delhi’ and will contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘developed India.’
A statement revealed that the Delhi government has sanctioned a revised cost of ₹1,635.03 crores for the construction of the Barapulla Phase-3 Elevated Road over the Barapulla drain. This road will connect Sarai Kale Khan to Mayur Vihar, expanding the existing Barapulla Elevated Corridor. Upon completion, it will offer direct, signal-free connectivity from Mayur Vihar in East Delhi to AIIMS in South Delhi.
According to the Chief Minister, this project will significantly reduce travel time for millions commuting daily between East and South Delhi. It is also expected to alleviate traffic jams around Sarai Kale Khan, Ring Road, DND Flyway, and NH-24.
Furthermore, the Delhi government aims to complete this project by June 30, 2026. The Chief Minister noted that the six-lane elevated road with an underpass on MB Road will extend from Saket G-Block to Pul Prahladpur.
The estimated cost for this project is ₹1,471.14 crores, and it will be executed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The Chief Minister indicated that the project will be implemented in two phases.
