Dehradun, May 24: The Dehradun police, under the leadership of the SSP, have made a significant breakthrough in an organized land fraud case. Councilor Amit Bhandari, also known as Dipu, from Ward Number 56 (Dharmpur), has been arrested. This arrest is seen as a crucial step in dismantling a major land mafia network.
Previously, the mastermind of this racket, Pradeep Saklani, was apprehended. During the interrogation of Saklani, several accomplices’ names emerged. Following this, special police teams conducted thorough questioning of the suspects, leading to shocking revelations.
The accused prepared forged documents to seize valuable land in Dehradun belonging to an elderly woman from Maharashtra. They created fake death certificates for her two sons and sold the land to three different individuals. Councilor Amit Bhandari’s involvement in this fraud has been established. He was arrested after solid evidence was found under case number 82/26. Other suspects, including Hem Bhatt, have been released to their families due to a lack of evidence for further action.
The SSP of Dehradun took this matter seriously and formed a special team that has been continuously investigating. Pradeep Saklani is the main accused, and the police will soon seek his police custody remand (PCR) for further investigation. This remand is expected to reveal the names of others involved in the forgery, middlemen, and beneficiaries.
According to police sources, this racket has been active in land fraud cases in Dehradun for a long time. The accused have been using fake documents, wills, and death certificates to seize properties from unsuspecting individuals. The elderly woman from Maharashtra fell victim to this conspiracy.
The investigation is ongoing, and if more accused come to light, they will also be arrested. The police will launch campaigns to curb incidents of land-related fraud in the city.
