DDA Heritage Week Kicks Off in Mehrauli from April 13 to 18

New Delhi, April 12: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will launch its ‘Heritage Week’ celebration at the historic Mehrauli Archaeological Park starting Monday. An official announced on Sunday that the event aims to raise awareness about Delhi’s cultural and architectural heritage among citizens, particularly the youth.

According to an official statement, the week-long festival, running from April 13 to 18, will feature a variety of activities for students and the general public. The goal is to encourage people to appreciate their heritage and showcase their creativity.

For the first time, the DDA has partnered with ‘MyGov’, a platform by the central government where citizens can share their opinions and suggestions. As part of this collaboration, an online photography competition will be held, inviting participants from across the country to capture the beauty of Mehrauli Archaeological Park’s historical sites and upload their entries on the ‘MyGov’ portal.

Additionally, the DDA has teamed up with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). This partnership will include an exhibition documenting efforts to preserve heritage in the Mehrauli area.

The statement noted, β€œTo connect students with Delhi and its rich heritage, several student-centric activities will be organized at the venue on April 15 and 16. These will include a ‘Heritage Walk’, a debate competition, a storytelling contest, and sketching and painting competitions.”

To ensure maximum participation from school children, the DDA has written to the Delhi government’s Directorate of Education, requesting schools to encourage students to take part in these activities. A ‘Public Heritage Walk’ is scheduled for April 17, allowing citizens to explore the park’s rich historical landscape and learn about Delhi’s architectural heritage.

The festivities will conclude on April 18 with an award ceremony, an exhibition of selected works, and a ‘Qawwali Night’, providing a cultural finale to the week-long event.

Through Heritage Week, the DDA aims to foster a deeper connection between citizens and the city’s historical sites, while inspiring the younger generation to appreciate and preserve Delhi’s unique heritage.

The statement also mentioned that the restored historical buildings in Mehrauli Archaeological Park were unveiled in October 2023, as part of the central government’s mission to preserve Delhi’s rich heritage and ancient glory.

Among the restored and preserved historical structures is the tomb of Balban. Greenery and plants have been planted around the restored historical buildings, and special viewing areas have been created to enjoy the stunning view of the Qutub Minar from the park.
