David Boon Appointed Interim Chairman of Cricket Australia Following Mike Bairds Departure

Melbourne, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : Former Test cricketer David Boon has been appointed as the interim chairman of Cricket Australia (CA) following Mike Baird’s announcement that he will not seek re-election. Baird informed the CA board that he would resign from his position during the annual general meeting (AGM) scheduled for next month.

In a statement, Cricket Australia confirmed that the process to appoint a new chairman will commence in the months following the AGM. Baird has served on the CA board for six years and has been chairman since February 2023. He stated, “After much consideration, I have decided to step down as CA chairman and director. I am pleased that David Boon has agreed to take on the role of interim chairman while we complete the formal appointment process.”

Baird added, “In the coming weeks, I will work with David to ensure a smooth transition. I take great pride in my role on the CNSW board and my contributions to the CA board over the past six years, including nearly four years as chairman.” Boon was appointed to the CA board in February 2025, after previously serving as a director on the Cricket Tasmania board for nine years, three of which he spent as chairman.

Boon brings a wealth of experience as both a former international player and administrator, having previously served as an ICC match referee. He has also held positions as the general manager of Cricket Tasmania and was a member of the Australian selection panel from 2000 to 2011.

In a statement released by Cricket Australia, Boon expressed his enthusiasm for the interim role, stating, “It is an honor to serve as interim CA chairman during such an exciting and challenging time for cricket. I look forward to leading the CA board as we continue to make decisions that ensure the long-term health and prosperity of the game while advancing Australia’s interests on the global stage.”

He also took the opportunity to thank Baird for his commitment to Australian cricket, highlighting his leadership from grassroots clubs to the ICC boardroom. Boon emphasized the importance of recognizing Baird’s impactful role in navigating the challenges faced by cricket.
