D.K. Shivakumar on Ministerial Oath Ceremony: High Command to Decide

Bengaluru, June 1: D.K. Shivakumar, the leader of the Congress Legislative Party and the newly appointed Chief Minister of Karnataka, stated on Sunday that the party’s high command will determine whether ministers will take their oaths during the ceremony scheduled for June 3. He refrained from making further comments on the matter.

In response to a question about the formation of the new government, Shivakumar said, “I do not have information on this. The party high command will make a decision. I do not wish to comment further.”

After inspecting the proposed site for the Congress building near Race Course Road, Shivakumar informed reporters that the party is considering a foundation-laying ceremony for the new office building immediately following the oath-taking event.

He mentioned, “After the oath-taking ceremony on June 3, we plan to conduct a land puja for the Congress building near Race Course Road.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi have yet to confirm their availability for the event.

Shivakumar indicated that all block and district Congress presidents, legislators, former legislators, and various party organization leaders will be invited. However, he clarified that the event will not be open to the general public. “Our party workers should forgive us. Due to limited space at the venue, only invited guests will be accommodated,” he said.

The invitation for the oath-taking ceremony has not yet been officially extended to Rahul Gandhi. Preparations for the ceremony are being led by senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy.

Regarding the oath-taking ceremony, Shivakumar noted that arrangements have been made for party leaders to view the event on an LED screen at the Congress office, as it will not be feasible to invite everyone to the venue.

He stated, “We should at least provide this opportunity to those leaders who have worked hard and struggled for us.”

When asked about plans to lay the foundation for 100 party offices across the state, Shivakumar said this initiative will commence in the coming days.

On the choice of venue for the oath-taking ceremony, he explained that the event will be held at Lok Bhavan to avoid inconveniencing the people of Bengaluru and to prevent traffic congestion caused by heavy vehicle presence.

He concluded by saying, “The program will be conducted simply, so there will not be a large crowd. Our party workers should forgive us.”
