D.K. Shivakumar Highlights Unity Amid Leadership Tensions in Karnataka

Bengaluru, March 3: Amid ongoing leadership tensions in Karnataka, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar emphasized unity within the Congress party on Tuesday. He likened his relationship with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to “milk and honey.”

Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Shivakumar praised Siddaramaiah’s response to allegations regarding phone tapping by opposition leaders. He noted that the Chief Minister shared valuable insights based on his experience, stating, “Our bond is as strong as milk and honey. Time will clarify everything.”

Clarifying his stance on the Chief Minister position, Shivakumar mentioned that he has not yet addressed this issue publicly. He announced plans to host a dinner on March 10 to celebrate his six years as the President of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee.

Regarding his continued role as KPCC President, Shivakumar expressed the need for new leadership to emerge.

In response to Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s phone tapping allegations, he asserted that he has never sought to destabilize leadership or undermine unity within the Congress party.

With 175 MLAs and MLCs in the Congress party, Shivakumar questioned the ongoing political narrative about leadership changes. He indirectly referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking, “Wasn’t he appointed Prime Minister without any background in the state?”

On the potential changes in the Legislative Council chairmanship, he stated that he would discuss the matter with the Chief Minister.
