Chennai, March 17: A cyclonic circulation over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjacent Lakshadweep region is expected to bring moderate rainfall to parts of the Western Ghats and southern Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Isolated thunderstorms with rain are also likely in some areas.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this cyclonic circulation is a significant factor influencing the current weather patterns in the region. Additionally, another atmospheric circulation is extending from the southwestern Bay of Bengal towards the Comorin Sea area.
A separate cyclonic system has also been reported in the northern coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, further contributing to weather instability.
Due to the combined effects of these systems, moderate rainfall is anticipated in districts along the Western Ghats and several areas of southern Tamil Nadu, with the possibility of lightning strikes in some locations.
Weather officials have indicated that heavy rainfall may occur in certain hilly and nearby areas. They also noted that rain is expected to continue in the coming days. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in the delta districts and surrounding areas on Wednesday, with similar conditions expected to persist through Thursday.
The IMD has also issued a temperature forecast for the region. On Tuesday, maximum temperatures across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to be about 2 degrees Celsius above normal levels. However, a gradual decline in temperatures is anticipated from Wednesday to Friday, with several areas potentially experiencing temperatures up to 2 degrees Celsius below seasonal averages.
Officials have advised the public, especially those living in hilly and rain-prone areas, to remain vigilant due to the risk of thunderstorms and lightning. Farmers, fishermen, and outdoor workers are urged to exercise caution and adjust their work schedules in light of the changing weather conditions.
