Kansas City, June 21: In a thrilling encounter at the FIFA World Cup 2026, Curacao faced Ecuador in a Group E match that ended in a goalless draw. The standout performer for Curacao was goalkeeper Eloy Room, who made several remarkable saves, helping his team secure their first point in World Cup history.
Curacao, recognized as the smallest nation to compete on the global stage, put up a commendable fight. Ecuador dominated the match with relentless attacks, but Room’s exceptional goalkeeping thwarted their efforts. He recorded a total of 15 crucial saves, earning him the title of man of the match.
Early in the game, Ecuador had a golden opportunity to take the lead. Moises Caicedo delivered a brilliant pass to Enner Valencia, who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. However, Valencia failed to convert, as Room made a stunning save. Curacao also sought to score first, with Leandro Bacuna and Jurgen Locadia creating chances, but they couldn’t find the back of the net. Ecuador then took control, launching continuous assaults on Curacao’s goal.
In the second half, Ecuador maintained their dominance, firing nearly 30 shots and hitting the woodwork three times. Yet, luck and Curacao’s solid defense kept them at bay. A powerful header from Enner Valencia was also denied by Room, who continued to shine.
With this draw, Curacao achieved their first point in World Cup history. Now, in Group E, Curacao, Ecuador, and Ivory Coast all have a chance to advance to the knockout stage, while Germany has already secured their place as group winners.
