New Delhi: The Crime Branch has uncovered a major racket involved in the production and transportation of fake and adulterated liquor worth around Rs 1 crore. The operation was disrupted following a police complaint registered on the night of 6 December 2025.
The accused attempted to transport the counterfeit liquor loaded in a truck from Goa to an undisclosed location in Belagavi. This liquor was intended for human consumption, posing severe health risks including the spread of infectious diseases and potential loss of life.
Legal action has been taken under several provisions of the Indian Penal Code, 2023, including Section 125 (endangering life or personal safety), Section 274 (adulteration of food or drink), Section 318(4) (fraud), Sections 335, 336(2), 336(3), 340(2) (offences related to cheating), along with Sections 30(A) and 30(B) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Excise Duty Act, 1964.
During the seizure, 1,498 cans of fake liquor and 35 bags of Asian Paints Marveloplast weighing 25 kilograms were recovered from the truck. The total estimated value of the confiscated goods is approximately Rs 1 crore.
Investigation revealed that the prime accused, Hussain Sub Mulla, son of Rukmuddin Mulla from Bijapur, Karnataka, carried out the operation under the guidance of Shailesh Jaywant Jadhav, a resident of Islampur, Sangli, Maharashtra. Shailesh had provided Hussain with a loaded truck along with invoices for delivery to Belagavi.
Hussain Mulla was arrested on 6 December 2025. Further inquiry led to the arrest of Shailesh Jaywant Jadhav, who was absconding after the crime. He was apprehended from Islampur, Sangli on 26 January 2026 and brought to the Crime Branch police station, where he was placed under seven days’ police custody.
The police continue to investigate the case and are working to identify other individuals involved in the racket. This operation underscores the authorities’ strict stance against illegal liquor trafficking and adulteration, crimes that threaten public health and government revenue.
