Kozhikode, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : The CPI-M Polit Bureau has taken a firm stance by ordering a significant reshuffle within the Kerala unit following an organizational crisis. This decision comes in response to growing criticism over electoral losses and organizational shortcomings.
As part of this restructuring, the state secretariat has been reorganized. Senior leaders P. Jayarajan, former minister V. Shivan Kutty, and M.B. Rajesh have been included, while T.P. Ramakrishnan and Thomas Isaac have been removed.
This pivotal decision was made on the final day of a three-day state committee meeting in Kozhikode. The meeting saw sharp criticism directed at the state leadership for failing to address the party’s electoral defeats and organizational weaknesses.
The state committee itself has also undergone restructuring, with nine new members added, including O.S. Ambika, M. Vijin, Jack C. Thomas, and P.S. Sanjeev. This move indicates an effort to bring younger faces into the organizational framework.
These changes are particularly significant as reports have emerged criticizing State Secretary M.V. Govindan for his performance and certain public statements. Several representatives argued that the state secretary has become disconnected from grassroots workers, and his handling of media interactions has left the party vulnerable to political attacks.
The criticism extended beyond individual errors. Representatives pointed out the increasing dominance of the government over the party organization and the weakening of its traditional grassroots machinery. They argued that the electoral losses cannot solely be attributed to governance failures; the party’s inactivity and failure to maintain worker confidence and enthusiasm also require scrutiny.
The return of P. Jayarajan to the state secretariat is particularly noteworthy. A prominent leader from Kannur, he has remained connected to the party’s traditional organizational style. His appointment is expected to influence internal dynamics within the party.
Shivan Kutty’s inclusion strengthens representation from southern districts, while Rajesh’s arrival brings a youthful and articulate leadership presence to the decision-making body.
This reorganization is seen as an attempt to unite various factions within the party and signal generational change. With organizational elections approaching, these changes could be crucial for rebuilding the party from the grassroots up. The Kozhikode meeting has proven to be a significant turning point for CPI-M in Kerala, with changes supported by the Polit Bureau clearly indicating that the leadership is no longer willing to overlook the organizational crisis.
