Thiruvananthapuram, March 15: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has unveiled its list of candidates for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, featuring 75 names, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and nine members of his cabinet.
The announcement came shortly after the election schedule was made public. State Secretary M.V. Govindan stated that the list includes 56 incumbent legislators.
He also mentioned that the party has decided to field independent candidates in six constituencies as part of a broader electoral agreement within the Left Democratic Front.
Govindan added that candidates for the remaining five constituencies will be announced soon.
The list includes all nine cabinet ministers from the Left government, notably Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas, who is also Vijayan’s son-in-law.
This announcement follows the Election Commission’s declaration that voting for all 140 assembly seats in the state will take place on April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4.
With the release of the candidate list, election campaigning has intensified across the state.
Within an hour of the election schedule announcement, General Education Minister V. Shivankutty kicked off his campaign in the state capital, launching a roadshow in his constituency.
Voting in Kerala will occur in a single phase on April 9, 2026, with counting set for May 4.
