The trailer of Param Sundari has received a positive response from many viewers, but this particular scene has led to protests. The Watchdog Foundation has written to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Mumbai Police, the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, and the Maharashtra Government, demanding that the scene be removed from the film and its promotional videos.

Demand for FIR Against Producers, Director, and Actors

The Foundation’s letter also questioned how the CBFC approved the scene. It warned that if the scene is not removed, there will be protests. The letter further demanded that an FIR be registered against the producers, director, and actors for allegedly hurting the sentiments of the Catholic community.

Accusation of Hurting Religious Sentiments

According to the complaint, a church is a sacred place of prayer and should not be used to depict obscene acts. The letter stated that the scene not only disrespects the sanctity of a religious site but also deeply offends the sentiments of the Catholic community.

Statement from the Watchdog Foundation’s Advocate

As reported by The Free Press Journal, Advocate Godfrey Pimenta of the Watchdog Foundation said, “In India, acts deliberately intended to outrage religious feelings are subject to legal scrutiny under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code. Cases like Azhar Basha Tamboli vs Ravi S Gupta and Hum Do Hamare Barah highlight the sensitive balance between freedom of expression and protection of religious sentiments.”

He added, “Under the Cinematograph Act, 1952, the CBFC is entrusted with certifying films while considering respect for religious sentiments alongside artistic expression.”
