Mumbai, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Gauri Tonk, currently starring as Madhavi Shah in the TV series “Tu Hi Re Dil Mein,” has voiced her concerns about the influence of social media on the perception of talent in the entertainment industry.
She highlighted that often, individuals with a larger following on social media are deemed more talented. “I’ve heard of instances where roles are denied to actors simply due to their low follower count on social media. I don’t see the logic in this. How does an actor’s talent relate to their social media followers?” she questioned.
Tonk drew a comparison between the short clips prevalent on social media and the rigorous demands of acting in films and television. “On social media, we create reels that last fifteen, thirty, or sixty seconds. In contrast, when working on films, daily soaps, or OTT platforms, we often labor for entire days, going through numerous retakes. Sometimes, we don’t even have time for a break. You can’t imagine the conditions we work under, often while feeling unwell or fatigued,” she explained.
Recalling a challenging moment from her previous show “Teri Meri Doriyaan,” Tonk shared an experience where she had lost her voice. “I had to perform a scene where my character’s son dies, requiring intense crying and shouting. I told my director, ‘Sir, I can’t speak.’ I practiced tirelessly, knowing that such scenes demand rehearsals. I asked him to bear with me, as I might lose my voice completely during the performance,” she said.
Her director placed his trust in her, and they executed the scene without her voice, completing it in one take. “I can assure you that no one watching that scene would have guessed that I had lost my voice that day,” she added.
Tonk’s insights shed light on the often-overlooked dedication and challenges faced by actors in the industry.
